Renovation Revolution: Driving progress through public-private collaboration
Event Information
This pre-COP29 webinar, hosted by Climate Group and the Energy Efficiency Hub, was aimed at achieving the ambitious goal of doubling global pace of energy efficiency progress in buildings by 2030. Current global building renovation rates are far below what is required to meet EU and international climate commitments. Building renovation is a complex and capital-intensive process requiring collaboration between public and private actors. This session focused on uncovering practical strategies and fostering collaboration to significantly accelerate energy-efficient renovations worldwide.
The webinar featured a panel of experts from national and sub-national governments, as well as leading figures in the private sector, who are at the forefront of shaping the future of energy efficiency and building renovations.
Panellists shed light on insights from Climate Group’s Renovation Revolution Handbook. The Energy Efficiency in Buildings Task Group showcased its recent publication, Deep Energy Retrofit Models, focusing on the experience of Argentina, Brazil, China, the European Commission, Germany, Korea, and Saudi Arabia. Leveraging insights from these reports, this webinar offered strategies to deploy effective solutions, potential for new collaborations, and strategic innovations.
The Energy Efficiency Hub is a voluntary collaboration among 16 governments seeking to strengthen their effectiveness in deploying energy efficiency. Its Secretariat is hosted at the International Energy Agency (IEA) to foster coordination with the Agency and with other international organisations, the private sector, and other stakeholders. The Energy Efficiency in Buildings (EEB) is a Task Group of the Hub, established in 2022 as a platform to exchange policy information about improving energy efficiency in buildings. It aims to scale up best practices on energy efficiency in buildings and to foster even closer cooperation with international partners.
Climate Group is an international non-profit founded in 2003. Climate group is on a mission to drive climate action fast. With a network of over 500 multinational businesses across 175 markets, Climate Group also works closely with governments at all levels. It serves as the Secretariat for the Under2 Coalition, a group of 167 state and regional governments. Climate Group’s Renovation Revolution project brings together companies, sub-national governments, and environmental sector NGOs to research and share findings on driving up deep renovation rates in Europe’s public and commercial buildings.
