SEAD: Mobilising Product Efficiency to Achieve COP28 Targets

Event Information

Appliances and equipment are essential to achieving the target of doubling the rate of energy efficiency improvement to 2030. According to the IEA Net Zero Scenario, this will require a 25% reduction in unit energy consumption of appliances. SEAD’s longstanding support for collaboration among governments to accelerate design and implementation of effective product efficiency measures is now being put in service of the doubling goal. Additionally, energy efficiency measures in appliances serve as a fundamental building block in achieving global carbon reduction objectives and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This session provides an opportunity for governments, industry, and NGOs to exchange successful approaches to further accelerate the uptake of highly efficient equipment and appliances for energy efficiency. Lessons will be presented from the Product Efficiency Call to Action, which was signed by 14 countries signed the Call to Action at COP 26. The session will highlight SEAD’s work in Latin America, supporting countries of the region in achieving the doubling of energy efficiency improvement by 2030, particularly in electric motor systems and appliances. Speakers would represent European, Middle Eastern and Asian and Latin American regions, and the host country to highlight the uptake of affordable, efficient appliances and equipment.
